Working with young people is the most rewarding and essential part of my legacy work. As a gardening mentor with the SEEDFOLKids after school program in Tampa, I worked with local students in underserved communities. These young gardeners are involved in every phase of the garden: designing, planning, planting, growing and harvesting annual and perennial crops on each school campus. Every year students start fruit trees from seed and plant them on campus, which continues to provide an ongoing food source for the school year after year. The program is designed to help young gardeners learn basic entrepreneurial skills by selling produce and products made from their harvest at the local market.
