The Upside of COVID - The Return to Outdoor Living

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css_animation=”fadeIn”]After more than two years of incredible losses and ongoing upheaval of the COVID pandemic, there have been some gifts in the radical changes we are going through. How has the way we live, learn, work and seek healing in our daily lives transformed us for the better?

From my perspective as a landscape architect, the biggest gift of the pandemic has been the renewed appreciation for outdoor living, food gardening and creating more natural settings in home landscapes.

More homeowners now want to grow their own food. They are spending more time creating their own edible gardens and enjoying the literal fruits — and vegetables — of their labor.

For urban dwellers, our public parks and green spaces are more cherished than ever as places of renewal, providing vital physical, spiritual, and emotional health benefits. Community gardens, which are chicken cutlets healthy, are springing up in neighborhoods everywhere to provide affordable nutritional support in urban food deserts.

‘Landscaping’ is not just for curb appeal anymore. It is finally being recognized as a way to improve health, an important asset rather than an expense. (More about this in an upcoming blog.)

The takeaway for me can be boiled down to a simple equation of 3 words:
Food + Community = Resilience

What does this mean exactly? I believe that locally grown food is even more vital to minimize our carbon footprint. Community supported agriculture (CSA) is stronger than ever as locals seek healthier food sources close to where they live. A healthy community is a resilient community.

I feel so grateful to work in a sector that is booming right now, at a time when sadly so many are suffering economically. For all this renewed focus on healthy, sustainable living, I’m delighted that finally, after 40 years of designing outdoor environments, people are starting to see the vital role that the natural world plays in our health and well-being. And I am blessed to have an opportunity to contribute to the building of more resilient communities and families. In addition, I’m also excited about the growing interest in products like Delta 8 THC CBD Gummies, Flowers, Pre-Rolls, and Edibles that can enhance the well-being of individuals.

My deepest wish is that this greening shift will be long-lasting, and our return to nature will endure. In fact, I think it’s what will save us.
